Grease Thief

Grease Thief device captures the most recently purged grease within the body and protects it from contamination by environmental contaminants.

The consistency of grease plays a critical role in its function as a lubricant. Most consistency measurement methods are designed for use with newly manufactured greases where there is no constraint on the quantity available. The Grease Thief sampling and analysis system overcomes these grease sampling and analysis obstacles by providing a reliable and cost-effective grease analysis solution with as little as one gram of grease.

The FerroQ enables on-the-spot ferrous debris measurement in grease samples extracted using the Grease Thief sampler (ASTM D7718).

Grease Thief PocketLab 1.1

PocketLab 1.1 contains two instruments, the FerroQ for wear detection, and the GT Colorimeter for color spectral analysis at fixed pathlength.  Together they provide insight into steel bearing and gear surface wear quantity, degradation of greases, contamination of greases, and mixing.

Grease Thief PocketLab 2.1

PocketLab 2.1 adds a third instrument, the GTA Mini-1.1, which creates a thin-film deposition of the grease sample from a Grease Thief Sampler and the Die Extrusion method, and provides comparison feedback on the consistency changes of the grease relative to new grease.  The thin-film grease layer is presented in substrate sections, each holding ~0.25g grease for testing in RULER, elemental spectrometers, FTIR, and Analytical Ferrography.

Designed in 2013, the StemThief™ provides a more efficient, safer, and cost-effective method to stem relubrication. The device was created in response to the NRC information notice 2010-03 due to STEM lubrication issues. This innovative addition provides lubrication for more effective lube film restoration. This reduces relubrication time with the ability to gain valuable insights on equipment condition through grease analysis.
