In most circumstances, procedures for obtaining representative grease samples from bearing housings and gears are not consistent and most likely do not represent the true condition of the “worked” grease near the lubricating surface. The Grease Thief Sampling Kits are designed to take samples from a variety of applications including: wind turbine, electric motors, pillow block bearings, motor operated valves and robotics applications.

The Grease Thief sampling & analysis methodology was developed over several years of research with the European Offshore bearing grease analysis research team. These tests are now outlined in AWEA RP-812 – 815 and ASTM D7918. The tools for taking a Grease Thief sample are ASTM D7718 compliant.
